Adam Oppenheimer

Britain b. 1988

Adam Oppenheimer is a London-born painter. Studying physics at the University of Bristol, he developed a scientific understanding of colour and light both of which play a key role in his work. While self-taught, painting has always played a significant part in his family life; growing up, he was surrounded by the paintings of his great grandfather, German impressionist, Joseph Oppenheimer.

Informed by his own past experiences as a commodity trader, where questions of cooperation, trust, fear and greed were considered through the intersection of geopolitics and the distribution of resources, his paintings draw inspiration from a rich inner life and his own solitude. Impressive monolithic canvases harness a temple-like quality.

Skyscapes are employed as a visual reference, with their framing and composition providing an element of abstraction that leaves space for the artist to disappear and for viewers to loose themselves in the work.

In this way, Adam Oppenheimer’s works arrive at an intersection of abstraction and realism that create thoughtful and meditative spaces on the canvas and seek to achieve, as he states ‘experience over spectacle’.
